This was beautifully expansive, I loved how you wove astrology, Buddhist wisdom, and everyday life together to show that ‘no objections’ is not passivity but a radical form of acceptance.
Thanks so much for this comment. It’s always a thrill when someone takes the time to read something I’ve written in its entirety. I fear the ‘long read’ is an endangered literary species! A new article publishes this weekend so I’d obviously love your thoughts again. Much love M
Randomly smelling a lemon - I thought that was just normal haha. So many amazing things to note on this, so much resonated.
Love this:
"In our constant striving to improve circumstances, we regularly forget how to inhabit them. Fukuoka believed there was a validity to simply being present, being a vital contributor to life’s all encompassing benevolent embrace, one that we are usually too busy to feel."
Since I was in my early 20s I coined a phrase 'I don't want it to cost my life, to live my life' a sentiment I used to mainly, at the time, excuse my escape of work and spend years galavanting around the world but later have come to realise and maybe i always did, that it stemmed from my rebellion of 'hustle' or 'work til you die' culture and an embrace of just being, living life as it is and as it comes, a concept I have come to embody fully as I ebb and flow and dance with the movements of life and the universe. I recently wrote a piece on not being in control and circumstances/events being neither good nor bad, that they just are, and what changes it is our reactions and emotions and stories we create around said events. I feel this piece reflects in a different and much more eloquent way, quite a similar view.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading and digesting this 🙏🏻🪷
What an engaging and personal comment Ellen. Quite the nicest in recent memory. Sincere thanks for taking the time both to read and share your thoughts. I hope we may continue the dialogue. Sounds like we're reading from the same existential handbook.
How about a radical rethink for 2026 Substackers? Give this one a whirl, fresh out of the NY resolutions bag with a big fat YES! Climb aboard the positive thinking bus and don’t alight til you’ve felt the Love that’s coming atcha 24/7 should you dare to accept the offer. It’s the ride no self respecting incarnation should miss!
